Haroon Bacha (born July 27, ) is a Pakistani Pashtun musician who sings mostly Pashto and Urdu languages.[1]Since starting his professional career in , he has released 50 albums.

Early life

Haroon Bacha was born on May 20, in Panjpir, Swabi, Pakistan. He received his early education at Govt. High School Panjpir and followed with his matriculation from Govt. High School No. 1 Peshawar. His and B.A. were taken from Edwardes College in and his master's degree in Social Work was taken from the Department of Social Work, University of Peshawar.

Career

Bacha's professional music career started in with a live television performance in Peshawar, Pakistan. His first album, "Da Rangoono Makhaam", was released in , with "Ghunchakoona" being released shortly after. Since then, he has released 48 other albums along with one single, "Speena Kaotara", which was released in the United States in Some of his albums include: "Heele", "Ulas Janaan Kra" and "Darman".

After a hiatus of four years, Pashto singer Haroon Bacha is finally back on the Pashto music scene with his new album titled Darman.


Forty-year-old Bacha, who hails from the district of Swabi, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, was driven away by extremist militants who believed that singing was against the teachings of Islam. Bacha, however, didn’t abandon his creative roots and instead moved to the US where he started hosting a cultural affair programme on Radio Mashaal, a Pashto service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Additionally, he kept his passion for music burning by performing for the Pashto community in the US at small gatherings. “We arrange parties in America and friends from various states come to attend them,” Bacha tells The Express Tribune. He adds, “Sadly, people who know how to play Pashto tunes are scattered in different states, so attendance is not as high as it used to be in K-P.”

Noted Pashto singer Haroon Bacha has brought out a book, showcasing profiles of the senior artists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan whose melodic voices had ruled over hearts of audience for several decades.

The Pohantoon Adabi Stori formally launched the book titled ‘Na Hairegee Na Ba Hair Shee’ (neither to be forgotten nor worth being forgotten) at Pashto Academy, University of Peshawar here on Friday. Young poets, writers and fans of Haroon Bacha attended the event.

The book contains brief life sketches of around 40 popular Pashto singers both dead and alive from Afghanistan and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speakers while passing critical remarks on the new title said that photographs of the singers should have been included as most readers might have not seen faces of those vocalists.
