William James "Will" Durant (Lua error: Cannot create process: proc_open(): Fork failed: Resource temporarily unavailable; November 5, – November 7, ) was an American writer, historian, and philosopher. He is best known for The Story of Civilization, 11 volumes written in collaboration with his wife, Ariel Durant, and published between and He was earlier noted for The Story of Philosophy (), described as "a groundbreaking work that helped to popularize philosophy".[1]
He conceived of philosophy as total perspective or seeing things sub specie totius, a phrase inspired by Spinoza's sub specie aeternitatis.[2] He sought to unify and humanize the great body of historical knowledge, which had grown voluminous and become fragmented into esoteric specialties, and to vitalize it for contemporary application.[3]

The Association for Moral Education hosted a presentation on Will Durant at its annual conference on November 8, The conference, held this year at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, brings together moral theorists from all over the world and in a variety of disciplines, including educators, psychologists, philosophers, and researchers.
The presentation, titled Faith as Moderator: Will Durant's Views on Religion as the Moral Foundation of Civilization, was heavily attended. At the conclusion of the presentation, presenter James Bishop, of the University of North Texas (and the host of the Will Durant Timeline Project), answered questions from the audience on the presentation topic as well as general questions about Will Durant.
