Michael Joe Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, on August 29, , the fifth of Joe and Katherine Jackson&#x;s nine children. The house was always filled with music. Jackson&#x;s mother taught the children folk and religious songs, to which they sang along. Jackson&#x;s father, who worked at a steel plant, had always dreamed of becoming a successful musician.
