Malgudi Subha was raised in Mumbai until the age of 13, after which her family relocated to Delhi. Her family spotted a special talent in her and immediately took her to Kimal G.B. Singh’s studio. She trained in music for few years before making her debut as a playback singer.  She made her playback singing debut with the Tamil film Nadodi Thendral. This film’s music was composed the great composer Ilauraja. It was Rehman who was instrumental in making her rose from ranks to become a renowned singer. A.R. Rahman signed her to sing all songs from his debut album, Set Me Free.  It was Rahman only who spotted her when she was doing jingles for him in the early s.
