Kalyanji Anandji and singer Manhar trained under his tutelage. To carry forward the classical tradition of his father, Roop Kumar also started playing with Pankaj Udhas and Anup Jalota unlike elder brother Shravan Rathod (of the Nadeem-Shravan duo). His younger brother Vinod Rathod also took to playback singing. Roop Kumar Rathod has also played tabla for Shyam Benegal`s `Discovery of India`.
